20-24 May: European Maritime Week Conference - Current Trends and Challenges Ahead

The Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Shipping, Trade and Transport, the European Parliament Office and the European Commission’s Representation Office in Greece, organize an important conference concerning the Maritime Sector and Innovative Entrepreneurship. The conference is being organized on the occasion of «European Maritime Day», as it was established by the European Commission in 2008. The conference addresses two main contemporary issues, Innovation and Shipping as major growth drivers of Greek Economy.

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence institution represent a great honor for Greek Universities in general, given the fact that its establishment was awarded to the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus in September 2012 from European Commission in the context of Research program. Nowadays, it constitutes the second active JMCE, detected during this period in the area of Greek Universities and only the fourth awarded to Greece since 2000.

The scope of the Center of Excellence includes research activities and related projects, Teaching activities, publications and presentations, conferences and ad hoc events, etc. Within this context, the Centre organizes the "European Maritime Week: Current Trends and Challenges Ahead", which entails a four-day conference ( 21/5-24/5) that will take place in the “Kranidiotis” Conference Hall of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is structured as follows:

21/5: Youth Entrepreneurship & Start-Ups
22/5: First Survey Results Presentation on the Maritime Grid in Greece, Roundtable & Panel Shipbuilding Industry
23/5: Shipping (Shipping Markets, Maritime Finance, Ports & Supply Chain, Piracy)
24/5: Maritime Policy (Unified EU Maritime Policy, European Networks Transport and Insular Affairs, Marine Tourism, Marinas & Cruise)
