Turkey: Gasoline Distributers Raise Prices by kr 10

Posted: Friday, May 24, 2013

Gasoline distributers have raised gas prices by TL 0.10, bringing the maximum price of gas per liter up to TL 4.73, the Anatolia news agency reported.

With the change in prices, a liter of 95 octane unleaded gas now costs between TL 4.72 and TL 4.73 in the provinces of Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir. Prices had previously ranged between TL 4.62 and TL 4.63. The cost of diesel, however, remains the same.

Releasing a written statement following the increase, Turkish Tradesmen's and Artisans' Confederation (TESK) Chairman Bendevi Palandöken criticized the move, noting that the increase would trigger a rise in inflation. “This will certainly have a negative impact on inflation. Such a decision effects the lives of 76 million people in Turkey as gas expenditure makes up the largest share of expenses. A week ago, prices had already been increased by TL 0.6. As prices in European countries continue to decline, it is not acceptable for the prices to go up in Turkey where people have a comparatively lower income,” he said.
