About IENE

Scientific Committees

The scientific work of the Institute is carried out through its various committees which have been set up or are in the process of being convened, and cover the various branches of the energy sector.

IENE’s current scientific committees are as follows:

Electricity:

Chairman, Dr. George Syntzanakis

Infrastructures, covering oil and gas:

Chairman, Mr. Alex. Athanasopoulos

Renewable Energy Sources:

Chairman, Mr. John Chatzivasilliadis

Energy Efficiency

Chairman, Dr. George Kamaras

International Advisory Group

Acting Coordinator, Mr. Costis Stambolis

The aim and role of the scientific committees of the IENE is largely advisory. In some cases a committee might be invited to work collectively to prepare a proposal, or a study, organize an event or a visit or undertake a technical appraisal. Each committee is required to be up to date on latest developments in its field of work in SE Europe and worldwide, so that through its chairman or one responsible member it can inform the executive committee of the IENE or even the Board of Directors, on matters of it's responsibility.

The driving force of each committee is the chairman who oversees its work. Depending on it's task and the needs of the Institute each committee can set up sub-committees in which specialists of the subject at hand can contribute by offering their services and experience.

There are four main tasks in the work of each committee:

(a) Information gathering, through an exchange of views and presentation of projects, assessment of published work etc, in the field of interest of the committee.

(b) Evaluation of the current situation in Greece, South East Europe and worldwide, as well as the formulation of conclusions and identification of problem areas.

(c) The creation of links and networking in the field of work of the committee in Greece and overseas.

(d) The preparation and submission of proposals to the executive committee of the Institute with the aim of undertaking specific tasks e.g. preparation of studies, working papers, assessment of policies, organisation of workshops, symposia or conferences participation in conventions and other events in Greece and internationally or the undertaking of other tasks of more general interest.

Each committee is generally free to decide itself the scope of its work, it's goals and targets as well as the methodology to be followed.
