Energy Chief Oettinger Says EU to Review Fracking This Year

The European Union will review hydraulic fracturing and the environmental concerns surrounding the practice this year, EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger says in newspaper Die Welt. "Protecting areas where drinking and ground water are present, such as at Lake Constance , is absolutely right," and the EU will look more closely at hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, this year, Mr. Oettinger says

Details about negotiations to sell a recently-acquired stake in the Nabucco West gas pipeline project consortium could be made public within weeks, the head of the Austrian oil and gas group OMV AG (OMV.VI) said. "It is true that we are negotiating with someone. Itochu, Partners Win Y350B Turkey Refinery Order -Nikkei

A consortium comprised of Itochu Corp. (8001.TO) and foreign firms won an order from the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) to build Turkey 's largest oil refinery in the western city of Izmir , the Nikkei reported in its Monday evening edition. Itochu will procure equipment from Japanese plant manufacturers for the roughly Y350 billion ($3.4 billion) project, while the Japan Bank for International Cooperation will help SOCAR raise the necessary funds
Shippers Keen on Booking Nabucco West Capacity

Shippers have shown keen interest in registration and capacity booking in the Nabucco West pipeline during the first week of the Open Season process, Nabucco Gas Pipeline International (NIC) said on Thursday. "Nabucco has received strong interest from variety of shippers, including potential shippers not part of Nabucco, the Shah Deniz consortium or its buyers," NIC said in a statement

Romanian power grid operator Transelectrica (TEL.RO) Wednesday reported a first-quarter net profit of 91.75 million lei ($6.26 million), more than double compared with RON45 million in the same period of 2012, news agency Mediafax reported. First-quarter sales fell 35.1% to RON568.3 million, mainly due to a RON317 million decrease in revenue from the balancing market
Romania January-March Power Output Down 7.7% On Year

Romanian energy output decreased 7.7% on the year to 5.44 million tons of oil equivalent in the first quarter, hurt by falling production in the thermal and nuclear sectors, official data showed Friday, news agency Mediafax reports. Thermal energy output declined 18.4% on the year to 7.83 billion kilowatts hour, while nuclear power production was down 2.4% to around 3 billion KWh, the statistics institute INS said
