Bulgarian Government Allocates 5.1 Mln Euro from State Budget for NPP Units Decommissioning

The caretaker government of Bulgaria allocated 10 million levs ($6.6 million/5.1 million euro) to the planned decommissioning of two units of the country's sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy.

Bulgaria should decommission the two units to meet its obligations to the European Union,The Kozloduy plant, on the Danube, remained with just two operational reactors of 1,000 megawatts (MW) each after the government closed down four units of 440 MW each to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to the country's accession to the bloc.

Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007.
