Bulgaria, Westinghouse Enter into Exclusive Talks on Nuclear Deal

Westinghouse Electric Co., the U.S.-based unit of Japan 's Toshiba Corp (6502.TO), Thursday said it had signed an agreement with the Bulgarian energy ministry to enter into exclusive talks for the supply of a new nuclear reactor at its existing Kozloduy nuclear power plant. The agreement the two sides signed Thursday could be worth several billion dollars if it leads to a final, binding contract sometime next year

Bulgaria plans to hold a tender for the construction of a new unit at its sole nuclear power plant (NPP), Kozloduy, in the second half of 2014, the country’s energy ministry said on Thursday. Bulgaria should first prepare a financial model, which would take some six to eight month, before it invites bids for the construction of a new unit, energy minister Dragomir Stoynev said as quoted in a press release of the ministry.
